Hospital TV Card (repost)

Someone I know had to spend a couple days in one of the hospitals here for observation. Nothing serious, but I did go visit them a couple times. They had their own room, with a sink, bed, closet and TV. The thing is, the TV was pay-per-view, and you had to go out to the nurses' desk to buy these magnetic stripe cards from a dispensing machine for 1,000 yen ($9.90 USD) each. One card gets you about 8-10 hours of TV time, then you need to put the next card into the reader. Given that there's not a whole lot else to do when you're in your room, having to pay to watch the TV is kind of petty.
